Architecture program in yonsei university's architecture engineering course is a five-year program that implements education to develop competitive global architects with the needs of the times by approaching architecture in a humanistic and artistic way based on history and culture. Since the first certification by the Korea Institute of Architecture Education and Certification (KAAB) in 2009, it has been continuously developing with the aim of three things: community and eco-friendliness, internationalization based on balanced education in theory and practice.
Improving the Qualification of Professional Activities through Internationalized Education
Unlike the past, we educate based on the perception that the future era should develop an architect in the world beyond a specific area. As the stage of activities is becoming more globalized, it requires different understanding of various cultures, adaptability in new areas and language skills. To achieve this goal, we aim for internationalized education through continuous and creative linkage with overseas institutions and universities. We will gradually expand opportunities to improve communication skills in English, the ability of understanding and adaptation of other cultures through various education.
Cultivation of cultural identity based on local communities
The more the activities aimed for the world are pursed, the more cultural subjectivity and the wider and deeper education of the region are required. Based on deep understanding of the community and cultural identity, design and other educational programs that emphasize the role and responsibility of architects are conducted. Educational environment that can expand opportunities for independent thinking in overall architecture industries while also expanding opportunities for self-identification are created.
Development of Comprehensive Understanding and Performance for Eco-Friendly Architecture
We need professional educators and programs to cultivate eco-friendly architects that are required by the present era. Comprehensive education of sustainable architecture is conducted through understanding the theory and principles of environmental reproducibility. Based on eco-friendliness, realistic practices such as material selection, construction process, detailed planning, and management are applied to eco-friendliness and design education based on integrated perspective of art, culture, and adjacent areas.
