연세대학교 건축공학과 류두열 교수가 세계 최고 권위의 콘크리트 분야 학술단체인 미국콘크리트학회(American Concrete Institute, ACI)로부터 웨이슨 메달(Wason Medal for Materials Research) 수상자로 선정되었다.
ACI는 1904년 설립된 이후 전 세계 120개국 이상에 걸쳐 약 4만명 이상의 연구자 및 실무자가 회원으로 활동하고 있는 글로벌 학술단체로 토목·건축 재료 및 구조 분야에서 가장 높은 권위를 인정받고 있다. 웨이슨 메달은 1929년에 제정된 이후 약 100년 동안 매년 수여되어 온 전통과 권위를 지닌 상으로, 한 해 동안 출판된 콘크리트 재료 분야 논문 중 최우수 논문 1편을 선정해 수여한다. 한국인 수상은 매우 드물며, 류 교수는 2005년 오병환 前 서울대학교 교수 수상 이후 20년 만에 두 번째 수상이다. 시상식은 10월 28일 미국 메릴랜드주 볼티모어(Baltimore, Maryland, USA)에서 진행되었다.
Professor Doo-Yeol Yoo of the Department of Architecture and Architectural Engineering at Yonsei University has been selected to receive the Wason Medal for Materials Research from the American Concrete Institute (ACI), one of the world’s most prestigious academic organizations in the field of concrete.
Founded in 1904, ACI is a global professional society with more than 40,000 members across over 120 countries and is widely regarded as the leading authority in civil and structural concrete materials. The Wason Medal, established in 1929, is a long-standing and highly respected award presented annually to the single most outstanding paper published in the area of concrete materials research during the previous year. Korean recipients are rare; Professor Yoo is the second to receive the honor in two decades.
The award ceremony was held on October 28 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, during the ACI Fall Convention.
